The Woodsman Callback Information
Please read all of the information below. Before you click on the callback list; please remember that there are a lot of moving pieces to a production of this size. This is a highly competitive audition process and we had so many talented students audition. You are definitely making our job hard!
Please note that these are ONLY the callbacks for The Woodsman. VHSL callbacks will be posted next week.
Callback Material
Like auditions there is nothing physically to prepare. I know this can sound daunting, here are some things you can work on:
Get familiar with the beats, movements, and tones of this song.
Learning more about the Woodsman storyline.
Becoming familiar with making choices and staying in character.
How to tell a story only through movement.
For callbacks, character connection is KEY! Make sure you’re familiar enough with the story we’re telling to truthfully tell it and make meaningful connections.
ATTIRE: For Callbacks, please wear as close to all black as possible. Black top, black pants, black socks, etc. Don’t go out and purchase clothing just for the callback, use what you have and do your best. Please stay away from clothing with logos or text if you can help it. The dressing rooms will be open to change after school should you need. Additionally, ensure the clothing you’ve chosen is flexible and doesn’t restrict movement.
Cast List:
To ensure a safe and comfortable audition environment, results will be shared individually by email.
Each email will include: Casting decisions, Mini feedback from your audition, and next steps (if any). Please do not email or message me asking about the cast list, I promise I’m working on it! Writing personalized emails takes time, and I want to give everyone thoughtful feedback. An official cast list will be posted only after all actors have confirmed their participation and roles. Please do not discuss casting with others until the official list is posted. Everyone experiences different emotions during casting season, and it’s important we respect each other’s process.
Callback Schedule
3:00p - 5:30p | Thursday September 3
Callbacks will take place in the auditorium. Our goal is to be efficient in our decision making so as to not waste your time. Please bring your patience as we want to ensure everyone has an opportunity to perform. Our goal is to release everyone by 5:00. We will release people as we need.
I didn’t get a callback. Now what?
Breathe. Then feel the feelings you need to.
So much work, time, and effort go into preparing for auditions. Not just physically, but mentally. We understand that the outcome may not have been what you wanted, and it is okay to be upset by it. But not getting a callback usually means two things: 1) We have seen what we need to see from you at this point; 2) That you are still in consideration for the show. Not receiving a callback is not an automatic no.
So what now? Be proud of the work that you did in the audition room: You showed up. You prepared. You took a risk. You put yourself out there. Don't spend tonight replaying every moment and thinking about what you could have done differently. Instead, hold onto the moments that make you proud that you walked into the room in the first place.
And remember: casting is not a ranking of who is the most talented. There are many factors that go into building a cast, including character fit, chemistry, vocal and physical combinations, storytelling choices, and the needs of the production as a whole. Sometimes a person can give an incredible audition and still not be the right fit for a particular role or production. We have plenty more opportunities this year, and I can’t wait for you to show up again! Trust the process.
